When there’s a poor person on the street asking for money, or help of any kind, the looks people give him/her are appalling. People are very skeptical. It’s been ingrained in people’s minds that poor people are only asking for money to pay for drugs or to buy beer. They’re only poor because they don’t work hard. And other shit like that. The poor are treated like dirt.
But the people that cause this poverty: The rich Capitalists? We admire them. Hell, we want to BE one of them. The essence of the American dream is being on the top of the food chain. It’s desirable to be the exploiter of others.
We should be treating the Capitalist class with more derision than we treat the poor. You can’t blame the poor for the faults of capitalism. But you can blame the people that hoard capital and cause income inequality.
Sadly, it’s been ingrained in our society to blame the victim and admire the criminal.
What the fuck is up with that?
