i have never posted a topless picture/ any kid of nude picture of my tumblr but..

this is SO AWESOME. a muslim woman protesting the burka. in some countries, muslim women are raped and beaten for showing even their noses and mouths. in some places, they get their hands chopped off for showing their wrists, or looking at a man. 

this picture is so inspiring and outrageous in the best way possible, and it makes me so so happy. wow is all i have to say. stand up for your human rights.

I would love to see a link to the story for this. I’ve seen a LOT of pictures like this since I’ve been a blogger—and almost all of them are porn related. And those porn related pictures are the vast majority of the time western non-muslims festishizing the burka in a very nationalistic sorta way—like—using women’s bodies to say “fuck you” to the taliban or something. I mean, I’m totally not discounting that this may be real, and if it is, I REALLY would love to post the woman’s story or specific quotes from her if it is a real picture…but I do admit to being suspicious.

That particular picture was debunked LONG AGO actually. It is not a Muslim at all - and frankly, let me tell you, no practicing (as in, believing in Islam as a religion, not just happening to come from a Muslim cultural background) Muslim woman WOULD participate in such an act. Women who think it is “amazing” and “inspirational” need to check their own cultural imperialism at the door. There are a million ways that Muslim women stand up for our rights - but if it doesn’t involve nudity and some way of declaring Islam itself as “the real problem” no one wants to hear about it. And for every Western woman talking about how in some countries women are beaten for showing anything, they are ignoring that not only is that not the norm (and a cultural thing more than an Islamic thing), not ONLY done in Muslim-majority communities, not done in the majority of Muslim-majority communities, but also that women around the world are beaten and judged based on their dress whether it is for too much or too little EVERYWHERE EVERYDAY. The assumption that Muslim women should want to get naked and that is how freedom is defined is the very first thing wrong with EVERYTHING Western Feminists and so-called radicals is all about. And let me tell you, Western woc are just as bad about this shit as any white mainstream feminist.
